- letter from RE to his daughter Philippa…..I have been painting during the last week a picture of the top of the Cow (Cow and Calf rocks) which I made a small drawing of when we were up in Ilkley recently. I think it is rather good, though of course one changes one’s mind.
I do hope I shall be able to come north from time to time for a few days to make more drawings because looking through the studies I made over forty years ago, I realise that is my spiritual home.
It is funny to see my old studio still standing in the garden down below the moors there. When you and I climbed up Blackstone Beck together I could hardly understand the gap of forty years, time stood still.
