- REP / PBI remember this picture hanging for a while on the wall above my bed at a time when Dad was not able to sell his pictures. It must have been in the mid 50s and I was very young but I mainly remember the feeling of space and the lovely trees with the dappled light on them.
Looking at this picture now I am struck by the two central trunks from top to bottom of the painting (with a third one escaping from the rigid framework) which centre the eye on an oak tree on the opposite bank. They seem to divide the picture up so that the two groups of buildings and figures and the pounding waters are in the ‘side panels’ as it were.
