The Art of Richard Eurich
- Sotheby'sThe painting depicts the events of the Great North Sea Flood of February 1953, one of the worst natural disasters of the twentieth century that affected several countries and in the U.K. alone, left 307 people dead and 40,000 homeless. The large scale of the painting paired with Eurich’s exceptional level of detail emphasises the magnitude of the disaster. He painstakingly depicts distressed individuals throughout the composition, and captures the violence and power of the water.
