The Palmer Family at Bussock Wood: Selected Items from the Reginald and Lena Palmer Collection

Descendants of the Victorian [biscuit] manufacturing icons, Huntley and Palmer, the Palmers are a tour de force family known for their contributions to society in Reading and the wider Berkshire region. The family home was Bussock Wood, purchased by Bill and Cherry Palmer in 1963, which housed a wonderful collection of items collected across the generations, including the Reginald and Lena Palmer Collection of Chinese Art. Here, we tell you more about this collection. [from the Dreweatt's website]

Auctioneer's notes"

This is a brilliant example of the tranquil seascapes that Eurich painted across his career and most notably in the 1970s. Eurich had settled in the New Forest in the 1930s and would often depict his local Solent coast and many of these paintings are now in museums including Waterspout on the Solent, 1954 (Bradford Museums and Galleries), Solent Angler, 1975 (University of Chichester, Otter Gallery) and Breakwaters, 1988 (Hampshire Cultural Trust). Eurich would always include small signs of maritime activity seen here in the boats along horizon as well as the small plane in the sky. This tranquil scene is in contrast to the intensity of Eurich's maritime scenes from WWII such as "Fortresses" over Southampton Water, 1942 now in the Imperial War Museum collection.

Eurich exhibited a number of times with Arthur Tooth & Sons in London in the 1970s.
