RA Summer Exhibitions
- REP/PBYears of observation in all weathers of the same strip of water from the same beach opposite the Isle of Wight have gone into this painting. The monstrous dark cloud almost engulfing the gleam of the tiny white sail is most dramatic. On its right that sort of 'column' of a greenish tinge dead centre of the picture is quite striking. The huge sky and the very low horizon all add to the drama. He always painted in his studio but you can feel him re-living that moment as he painted!
We can't date it exactly but he usually exhibited his most recent work at the very next RA summer show so that points to 1990.
