- REP / PBIt is interesting to compare this picture with Lepe Beach (1970) which was painted about the same time. The rotting fence is right in the foreground and the rubbish bin is on the edge of the composition. It is like holding a camera and moving forward to get a slightly different view of the same landscape. An added detail is the discarded page of a newspaper caught on a bit of barbed wire. It is probably added as an after-thought to give life to the composition. The Solent is darker than the surrounding land and sky perhaps reflecting the now receding thunder.
