The subject is Vivien Cutting's caravan, on the plot now known as Robin's Bush, as seen from the garden of Appletreewick, Richard's house in Dibden Purlieu on the edge of The New Forest in Hampshire. The present collector (2017) always admired the painting in VC's later house in Newtown, Montgomery. He and a friend stayed in the caravan, on another site in Dibden Purlieu, while revising for Cambridge exams. [Edited version of the inscription written by the present (2017) owner on the back of the painting]

Not to be confused with Spring in the New Forest (c1943).

I remember visiting Vivien Cuttings caravan when it was situated off North Road .. backing on to our garden in Nash road. I was 8 and 9 at the time and I still have a much treasured book that she gave me. I remember so many lovely times spent in her caravan , maybe slightly larger than the one painted here?? Or maybe remembered as larger by me! She was a magic lady.
