Richard lists this work in his sales diary as Southampton Docks (Ashlett Creek). The foreground is reminiscent of Ashlett Creek, but the docks in reality are a long way to the left of this view. He has merged at least two scenes together. This is not unusual. See Southampton (1938) in the related pictures below. He describes it as ... lots of Southampton all bunged together ... . This painting is probably another montage.
