RA Summer Exhibitions
- REP / PCFour Palmerston seaforts were built across the Solent from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight around 1860. They were designed, along with other land based forts, to protect the Royal Navy port of Portsmouth from a perceived threat from the French navy. This one is Spitbank Fort, now a luxury hotel.
The seaforts were the main subject in a number of Richard's paintings, and an incidental subject in a few others. See the links below to the other works.
