Night Episode

We are not sure what the "Episode" refers to in the title.  

Richard's grandson Rupert has tracked down a reference to a Belgian trawler registered in Ostende which, in 1937, had the same registration number as the one in the painting - O.317.  

It's name then was the Maurice-Roger. Richard painted a name on the bow which seems to include the word "Roger" but the other part of the name is hard to decipher.

Even with this information we cannot, so far, work out what inspired Richard to make this painting.  Perhaps it was in the news because it was fishing illegally or was involved in a rescue?
