Mavis and Philippa, Lepe, early morning
1962
oil on thin board
15h x 27.2w (cm)
Private Collection (UK)
- REPThis, apart from the 1960 sketch, is one of the earliest of all the many Lepe Beach paintings and drawings. It is small but jewel-like and the sea is luminescent. It is interesting that though only suggested, the figures are unmistakably me and Mum! The postures are typical. I love the textures in the beach with the occasional scratchings from the wrong end of the brush.
