Early Morning, Lepe
1960
- REP / PBThis is a rough sketch but it must have been painted back in the studio as I don’t think Dad ever took his paints along with him to Lepe. However he must have painted it while the vividness of the experience was still fresh in his mind. I love the way the colour of the sea changes from the churned-up waves near the beach to the heavenly blue further out. Although the paint looks as if it has been put on fairly liberally, the grain of the canvas can in fact be seen through it almost throughout the surface.
