The darkening landscape is still irradiated by a burning disc of sun, but it seems like no earthly time of day. This is a different playing out of the dialogue between dark and light, a truly original interpretation. It is a powerful image, strongly painted and constructed. It is difficult to gauge the mood of this work: it is neither resigned nor ordinarily optimistic. It is somehow exalted, and utterly remarkable.
