- REP/PBThis painting perfectly reflects the colourful and exciting atmosphere around Cowes Week that takes place in the waters of the Solent round the Isle of Wight each year. The week buzzes with yacht races, regattas and all sorts of sailing events.
The freedom of paint and freshness of his palette are remarkable for a 77 year old painter. After we (his children) all got married in the late 60s and he gradually stopped teaching at Camberwell School of Art and later the R.A. Schools, he experienced a new-found freedom with fewer commissions and obligations. Although various personal tragedies were to follow, he was able to express himself in paint and gain strength through his work.
