Coverack, Cornwall
1937
oil on canvas
63.5h x 76w (cm)
Private Collection
- REP / PCAccording to the records Richard painted three pictures set in Coverack, a fishing village in Cornwall:
- Coverack (1935)
- Lifeboat House, Coverack (1936)
- and this one Coverack, Cornwall (1937) - aka 'Coverack Harbour', aka 'Coverack'
It was first exhibited in 1938 but not recorded as sold until the 1944 Royal Academy summer show. It was titled 'Coverack' in the catalogue, but we do not think it could have been the 1935 'Coverack' because that was sold in 1935.
According to a note in Richard's sales diary it was bought from the RA exhibition by Rochdale Art Gallery. The gallery, however, have no record of ever having it in their collection.
See the provenance timeline below to see where we think it has travelled since 1944. Some of these details are uncertain.
