- REPThis work is one of two sister paintings. We knew the work originally from two photographs we found among the records of RE's paintings both titled 'A Family', both done in 1975, and both on 10x12in board.
When they came to be shown together in a 1977 Fine Art Society exhibition, this painting was illustrated in the catalogue as 'The Family' Cat 53. The other had been renamed to 'Warm Day' Cat 54 but not illustrated. However when the painting on this page was sold at auction in Canada in 2012, it was recorded that it had the title "Warm Day" written on the back.
Which evidence do you believe? We have decided to consider the catalogue entry as a mix-up and go with the title 'Warm Day' for this one. However we still cannot be totally confident that we have the full story. See the sister painting 'A Family' (1975) here.
Later a collector introduced us to a third one - A Family (1989).
Also not to be confused with The Family (1929).
