Richard Eurich (1903-1992) Visionary Artist
The Art of Richard Eurich
- James Hyman GalleryThis beautiful small painting is charming yet has a sense of expectation and even menace. It recalls not only the whimsy of Eurich's paintings of the later 1920s and 1930s but also the dark, dramatic skies of his celebrated wartime paintings of the 1940s. Painted at the war's end, The House on the Beach is a summation of many of Eurich's key themes: we are shown a beach on which boats lie awaiting high tide. People look out expectantly, a fishing boat is tossed by the turbulent sea and dominating the scene is the glowing presence of an imposing, yet welcoming house.
