There are certainly some layers of paint here. Dad has used several techniques of scumbling and dragging the paint to achieve a texture suggestive of a restless sea. However the horizon is a pure steady line. The ferry is on its way from Southampton to Cowes on the Isle of Wight and a ray of light catches the sail of a yacht close to the safety of the harbour.
