Richard went to Seahouses and the Farne Islands in Northumbria in the mid 1960s to work on a commission for the Shell calendar. This wild coast also inspired several other paintings.

Seals at Longstone Lighthouse, scene of Grace Darling's rescue of wrecked men. Boatman told me a piece of the wreck (1838) had been found only the other day.
