Rehearsal

- PBWe were fortunate enough to photograph this painting a few months before it was destroyed in a fire at the gallery store it was kept in. Quite a large picture, which made us gasp when we saw it. For several years my mother was involved in amateur dramatics and no doubt Dad witnessed some of the rehearsals going on in our house. However this austere room with its naked fireplace stuffed with rejected sheets of paper is unlike any room I know. The main character is obviously well into her part while her co-star stands patiently and somewhat unimpressed by her passion. The prompt lady is very neutral too which adds to the feeling of a cold reception to the histrionics of the heroine. A very strange painting.
