- REP / PBBack in the late 50s and early 60s I remember that tarry deposits littered Lepe Beach so you had to be careful when you sat down not to get sticky black stains on your clothes. I certainly don’t remember ever seeing these again in later years so obviously an effort had been made to clean things up considerably. Something must have leaked here however. The clean-up operation is a dramatic event.
