A problem picture by Richard Eurich A.R.A.

Mr. Richard Eurich’s minutely painted 'A Judgement' caused much comment at this year’s Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts. The artist’s own description of the picture is as follows: “A judgement – of musical instruments. St. Cecilia, a carved and painted figure over the organ case, presides over the judgement, watched by choristers in the gallery on the left, the trumpets sounding round them. Violins soar up to the gallery on the right. Judgement is suspended in the centre on the serpent, hurdy-gurdy and other instruments, while various stringed instruments await judgement. Below, the harpsichord and clavichord demand a hearing amid the percussion, while sheets of music drift through space.
